Our Mission

The Upper Shore Genealogical Society of Maryland is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our goal is to:

  • Encourage all of those interested in researching their ancestral heritage and promote fellowship and cooperation.
  • Educate members and the public on genealogical information from the Maryland counties of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Talbot through meetings, seminars, workshops, and publications.
  • Provide a forum for sharing knowledge that individual members have acquired in their own research.
  • Collect, preserve, and disseminate genealogical, biographical, and historical knowledge and information.

By being a member of the Society you will be joining many others who share this goal while tracing their family's origins to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Serving as a focal point for genealogical activities in the counties of Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's and Talbot, the Society is an important link in the exchange of information between resident and non-resident history researchers.

Our History

The Upper Shore Genealogical Society of Maryland began in 1973 following a genealogy class for beginning researchers, held at the Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Maryland. From the initial class of fourteen, the organization now offers information and assistance to more than one hundred members.
